SB 1197 -- DONATING BLOOD SPONSOR: Wheeler (Viebrock) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Children and Families by a vote of 11 to 0. This bill allows any person who is 16 years of age to donate blood if written permission or authorization is obtained from his or her parent or guardian. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2007, FY 2008, and FY 2009. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill is necessary because blood banks in this state have very little supplies. Testifying for the bill were Senator Wheeler; and Representative Viebrock. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
